The Großglockner High Alpine Road is one of Austria’s most well-known landmarks and is regarded as being one of the world’s loveliest roads for excursions and for enjoying panoramic views.
In any event, it is one of the three most visited excursion destinations in Austria! This road, which is for the most part high Alpine in terms of terrain, blends almost seamlessly into the mountains over its 48 kilometre length, and proceeds, bend by bend, right into the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Right up to Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe and to Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner and the Pasterze, the highest glacier in the East Alps that is still in existence. Majestic mountain summits, glaciers, lush valleys and woodlands – a view that moves mountains!
